On Wednesday 25th August friends of Hand In Hand Activities CIC came together and boarded to Teesside Princess for an Afternoon Tea cruise along the River Tees.
Alison greeted the group members to signpost to the boarding point and seating area (and also double check that everyone was present and correct) while the passengers got comfortable on the lower deck seating area. Once everyone had arrived safely, a small game of musical chairs was required to get everyone seated with someone they knew. Then it was time for departure at 2pm prompt.
The cruise took passengers along the River Tees starting at Stockton on Tees, along to Yarm and back via a quick jaunt to the Tees Barrage. While on board, the Captain shared fun facts about the local area including historic factories, flood-prevention installations and the cost of private education in Teesside.
All service took place at the table, due to COVID restrictions remaining in place, but that was fine as we hadn’t quite developed our sea-legs. Once the anchors were up, Alison handed out three quiz sheets and pens to the eight teams of two as they were sat at the tables and advised there was a prize for the top scoring team. The quiz sheets included a picture quick, a play on words and an A-Z quiz – not particularly easy by anyone’s standard.
At 2:30pm we were served our Afternoon Tea, which was made up of 4 different sandwiches, jam and cream scones and 3 different flavour cakes (I think coffee, chocolate and lemon but don’t quote me on that as I was stuffed after the scone!).
When the Teesside Princess started the return leg of the journey it was time to collect in the answer sheets and add up the scores:
Table 9 C&J – 31
Table 9 A&S – 33
Table 10 D&N – 22.5
Table 10 C&J – 29
Table 11 L&J – 41
Table 11 R&A – 44
Table 12 K&M – 36
The winning team was Robert and Anita who got to fight over a bottle of Pernot and a bottle of wine. Both bottles were re-donated for future events.
At the end of the sail, everyone who attended had a polaroid picture taken with the Captain and the Compere so that they had a little something to take home and remember the day.
All being well, we look forward to setting sail on board the Teesside Princess again soon.
Thank you to the Team at the Teesside Princess for being absolutely amazing and catering for everyone, thank you to everyone who came along for the afternoon sailing and thank you to Liz for providing the stack of quiz papers.
