On Tuesday 9th November, the Happy Wanders set out in McChadwick (the minibus) for a shopping trip to Mainsgill Farm Shop in Richmond, located just off the A66 close to Scotch Corner.

Leaving Grays Road Institute at 10am, we arrived shortly before 11am as the traffic was on our side! It was a chilly morning but our first stop was the cafe for a hot drink and a piece of cake. Then we headed upstairs to take in many of the festive delights on offer. There were some beautifully decorated Christmas trees, Christmas lights, Christmas decorations… Some good quality designer clothes were also available, as well as a variety of books of all kinds. Alison, our chauffeur for the day, bought herself a fantastic little notebook because it made her chuckle…

After a spot of shopping and a venture out to see the animals, the group returned to the cafe for a rest, a gossip and a delicious freshly made lunch, with many opting to take cakes home to enjoy later with family.

It was a lovely day and the farm shop really did get the group in the festive mood. If you are ever venturing across the A66 we would definitely recommend a little stop off there to enjoy their hospitality at the very least.

I really enjoyed the trip to Mainsgill Farm Shop, the Coffee shop was our first Pit stop for a hot drink and a piece of cake or scone what better way to start. Out to see the Camels and other Animals, now for a mooch round the Christmas decorations there was some lovely displays. Then to the food hall wow that’s how I remember fresh meat, how lovely it looked, a real butchers counter. not all pre packed as we see in the supermarkets, then to the cakes a fruit meringue looked good for teatime treat. Then to finish the day lunch. Thanks to Alison and my travel companions another lovely day out, why stay at home and feel lonely.
